Please note that personal cheques are not accepted

Upon submission of application, please include self-addressed stamped or paid envelope which provides a tracking number for the return of passports and/or documents

All envelopes submitted with the applications must have the correct mailing address. If there are changes to the address, it is the responsibility of the applicant to inform the consulate with the new address. The consulate will not be responsible for the loss of documents as a result of being sent to the incorrect address.

All applications must be completed only with black ink pen.

1. SOUTH AFRICAN TOURIST PASSPORTS

Passports are not renewable after expiry, new applications must be lodged.
Passport applications must be submitted six (6) months before the expiry of the current passport.
Tourist passports are issued to applicants who are 16 years and older and has a validity period of 10 years.
Child passports are issued to applicants under the age of 16 years and have a validity period of 5 years.

Certified copy of old/expired or current passport to be submitted with application unless valid visas are attached then certified copies of expired passport and valid visa must be submitted with application

Full set of fingerprints (BI-9 form) – 16 years and older

Certified copy of dual citizenship certificate or sworn affidavit that the applicant has not yet acquired other citizenship

In case of a minor, a certified copy of the unabridged birth certificate, parents South African Identity Documents and Marriage Certificate

In case of an applicant 16 years and older, first application for an Identity Document is required

MAXI TOURIST PASSPORTS

Maxi passports are only issued to applicants who are 16 years and above. They are issued to frequent travelers that provide more pages than the regular passport. Maxi pasports are valid for ten (10) years.

TEMPORARY PASSPORTS

Temporary passports are travel documents that can be issued for a validity period of not more than one (1) year. Applicants for temporary passports must also apply for permanent passports. Without an application for a regular passport, a temporary passport may not be issued.

As South Africa’s temporary passports are not accepted by the Government of Canada or some countries while in transit i.e. UK, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and Holland, it is the responsibility of the traveler to check all destinations to which they are going before applying for a temporary passport. The Consulate accepts no liability in this regard.

EMERGENCY TRAVEL CERTIFICATES

IMPORTANT NOTICE: An Emergency Travel Certificate is valid for a single journey only to South Africa as the final destination and has a validity of nine (9) months.

CITIZENSHIP

IMPORTANT NOTICE: South Africans holding dual citizenship must enter and depart South Africa using South African passports only.

Retention

This exemption is applicable to South African citizens who have not yet acquired the citizenship of another country but who are contemplating becoming one or is in the process of obtaining one. This exemption will enable them to become a citizen of another country without losing their South African Citizenship.

Exemption

South Africans who lost their South African citizenship through formal acquisition of another citizenship whilst no longer a minor and without applying for retention prior to becoming a citizen of another country, may apply for exemption from the loss of their South African citizenship as long as they have acquired the other citizenship before 06 October 1995.
